On March 2-5, 2012, the Wings of Dreams Airfest will honor American heroes, who served and defended freedom in World War II and showcase the revered aircraft that brought them safely home.
For the fifth year, the Wings of Dreams Airfest will host the Collings Foundation’s “Wings of Freedom Tour” at Keystone Heights Airport, the first stop of its national tour. The most famous “Freedom Fighters” of World War II - the B-17 Flying Fortress, the last flying B-24 Liberator and legendary TP-51C Mustang (like the ones flown by the Tuskegee Airmen) will be available for walk-through tours and unforgettable flights.
The Airfest will also include vintage, military and aerobatic demonstrations flights, symposiums, historical displays and demonstrations, youth aviation and WWII history activities, and a Big Band Hangar Dinner/Dance.
We believe the most effective way to keep history alive is though direct participation. Many young people will be experiencing this unique educational event and “living history” for the first time. The most poignant and memorable part of the Wings of Dreams Air Show may be meeting and speaking to the men and women of the “Greatest Generation,” who flew missions in these aircraft, hearing their stories of wartime experiences, and participating in tributes to commemorate their service.
On this weekend, Wing of Dreams Airfest team is striving to bring aviation and World War II history to life. We want to promote patriotism and a better understanding of American history and the sacrifices made to defend and preserve freedom.
